The Hon (bear) Kachina is very powerful and is believed to be
capable of curing illnesses.  He is also a great warrior.  Bear
Kachinas appear most often in the Soyohim or mixed dances
of springtime or occasionally as side dancers for the Chakwaina
Kachinas.

There are a number of Bear Kachinas.  Some are distinguished
only by color such as the blue, white, yellow or black bears
Kachinas.  There are others such as Ursisimu, who have become
extinct, and Ketowa Bisena who is the personage that belongs to
the Bear clan at Tewa.  There are bears fancifully dressed and
bears that are not.

This Kachina is considered a very important war Kachina on
third mesa, although he may appear on all three mesas.
On third mesa he is represented by two Kachinas.  These
Kachinas most often appear at the bean dance or Pachavu
ceremony, but may also appear in the mixed dance.

The Ogres play the role of disciplinary Kachinas on all 3 Mesas.
The Soyoko or Ogre woman tells the younger children that they

The Kokopelli is a hunch backed flute player whose Heritage
dates back as early as 200 AD.  This legendary, well traveled
and footloose figure was a God to some, a nuisance to others
and a leaser of good luck and health to many.  Well known for
his gift of fertility, childless wives begged for his company
while unmarried women fled from him in fear.
